US marine dies in Iraq's restive Al-Anbar province
BAGHDAD (AFP) May 19, 2004
A US marine has died in Iraq's volatile western Al-Anbar province, in "a non-hostile incident," the US military said Wednesday after earlier reporting that the soldier had been killed in action.

The soldier's death was "incorrectly reported as killed in action," a spokeswoman told AFP. "The correct cause of death is non-hostile," she added, stressing that the incident is under investigation.

The latest casualty takes the US military death toll in Iraq to 786 since the start of the US-led invasion in March last year. This figure includes 573 troops killed in action.
