Several wounded in fresh Israeli air strike in Rafah: witnesses
GAZA CITY (AFP) May 19, 2004
An Israeli helicopter fired a missile Wednesday night into the Rafah refugee camp in the south of the Gaza Strip which wounded several people, Palestinian witnesses said.

The witnesses could not immediately identify the target of the new air strike in the camp's beleagured Tal al-Sultan neighbourhood, but said tanks had also open fired in the area.

At least 10 Palestinians were killed and around 50 wounded earlier when Israeli forces opened fire on a demonstration against the large-scale military operation in Rafah.

The deaths drew further international outrage over the operation, which has claimed a total of 34 lives since the start of "Operation Rainbow" early Tuesday.

Meanwhile, local residents also said an educational centre funded by Canada had been destroyed in the violence, while security sources said Israeli troops also carried out fresh raids into the camp's eastern neighbourhoods.
