Iran top threat to Israel: Netanyahu JERUSALEM, March 31 (AFP) Mar 31, 2009 Israeli prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu alluded to an eventual nuclear-armed Iran on Tuesday as the biggest threat to Israel, as he presented his government for parliamentary approval. "The biggest danger to humanity and to Israel comes from the possibility of a radical regime armed with nuclear weapons," Netanyahu said, without mentioning Iran by name but making clear from his remarks whom he meant. "I hope the Arab world isolates radical Islam since the Arab world is itself threatened by this radicalism. "Extremist Islam does not only threaten us, but it threatens us first and foremost ... Its goal is to erase the State of Israel from the face of the earth. "It is shameful that decades after the Holocaust, calls by Iranian leaders to destroy Israel are greeted with indifference by the world, without being firmly condemned, without decisive action, almost routine." "The Jewish people have learned the lesson; they cannot lower their heads before dictators who threaten to destroy them. "Contrary to what happened during the last century, today we have the means to defend ourselves. We know how to defend ourselves." All rights reserved. 2005 Agence France-Presse.
