Embraer To Open New US Aircraft Assembly Facility In Jacksonville
Fort Lauderdale FL (SPX) Aug 23, 2004
Embraer will break ground on its new US Defense and Homeland Security aircraft assembly facility in Jacksonville, Florida, on Monday, August 23 at Cecil Commerce Center beginning at 1 pm.

Expected guests joining Embraer President and CEO Mauricio Botelho include Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, Members of Congress, Jacksonville community leaders, and senior military and industry leaders.

The facility will be home to aircraft final assembly operations for Embraer's U.S. defense and homeland security programs, beginning with the US Army Aerial Common Sensor (ACS) program.

Embraer is a part of the Lockheed Martin team recently selected to develop the Army's next-generation battlefield surveillance aircraft - ACS. Embraer will provide the platform for this new system based on its popular ERJ 145 regional jet.

The Jacksonville facility is expected to be completed in late 2005 and will eventually employ some 200 people at the Cecil Commerce Center site.
