El Segundo CA (SPX) Apr 05, 2007

Iran frees British sailors after 13-day crisis
Tehran (AFP) April 4, 2007
Iran released 15 British sailors on Wednesday as a "gift" to the people of Britain in a dramatic end to a two-week ordeal that had triggered a new diplomatic crisis between Tehran and the West. As relatives and friends popped champagne corks in Britain, the naval personnel were seen on state television chatting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after his surprise announcement of their release. "Although Iran has the right to prosecute them by following the model of the prophet the 15 people were pardoned and their freedom given as a gift to the British people," Ahmadinejad said at a Tehran press conference ... more

Herzliya (UPI) Israel, March 29, 2007
A cartoon the Palestinian Ma'an news agency published Thursday encapsulated its view of the renewed Arab peace initiative -- and Israel's reaction to it. A mustached Arab in a white kefiyah headdress is all ready for peace. Doves are perched on his head, shoulders and back. An olive branch is in his mouth, another in a pigeon's beak, and a bunch of similar branches are under his arm. ... more

    Pakistan's Talibanization
    Washington (UPI) April 03, 2007
Robert Louis Stevenson's 1886 classic, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," was a vivid portrayal of a split personality. Paired, the two names have come to signify bipolar behavior. As president of Pakistan, to rule a Muslim country of 160 million that is 65 percent illiterate and overwhelmingly anti-American, firmly held contradictory views are the key to survival. For President Pervez Musharraf, ... more

    Washington (UPI) April 02, 2007
One of the pillars of al-Qaida's operational objectives in its war against the West is striking at targets of high economic value, the so-called bleed-until-bankruptcy plan first made public by Osama bin Laden in December 2004.
