Atlas Elektronik UK is to demonstrate its unmanned mine-hunting mission system in the fall at the Royal Navy's high tempo Unmanned Warrior 16 demonstration. The Atlas system, known as ARCIMS, is a vessel that can operate remotely, autonomously or as a manned vessel. It is designed for military applications with a shock-resistant hull and a low underwater radiated signature. It is reconfigurable with modular payloads for counter mine operations, hydrography, coastal anti-submarine warfare, maritime security and force protection. Its top speed is 40 knots. Atlas said ARCIMS is being integrated with Northrop Grumman's AQS-24B Synthetic Aperture Sonar, a high-speed towed mine-hunting system. "It's [Unmanned Warrior 16] the perfect environment for us to demonstrate our naval mine counter-measures capabilities," said Atlas Elektroniks UK's head of Surface Ships division James Young. "ARCIMS has proven USV capabilities, with two contracts received from international navies in 2015. "Due to this increase in demand, we are ramping up our production capacity, and are currently fitting out the sixth ARCIMS at our dedicated Integration Facilities at Winfrith in Dorset." ARCIMS will be available for additional demonstrations and purchase after the fall event, the company said.
