More than a dozen U.S. Navy guided missile destroyers will receive radio and communications systems design and integration support from BAE Systems.

BAE Systems said it is to continue to provide the support under a nine-year Navy contract with an initial value of $28.4 million and an overall value of $187.4 million.

"We have a hard working and dedicated team of experts that has worked on every DDG 51 class destroyer in the U.S. Navy's fleet, including most recently the USS John Finn," said DeEtte Gray, president of BAE Systems' Intelligence & Security sector. "That's 63 new ships over 29 years."

The new contract covers 12 DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers and one DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyer.

Company services for the ships encompass radio and communications systems engineering, production and integration. Additional details, however, were not disclosed.

The work is part of the Navy's new construction program, which is designed to field new advanced-capability surface combatant ships.
