Lockheed Martin To Upgrade Battle Management System For USAF
Colorado Springs CO (SPX) Jun 12, 2008 The U.S. Air Force Electronic System Center has selected Lockheed Martin to upgrade the U.S. Air Force flying unit command and control capability formerly under the Theater Battle Management Control System (TBMCS) contract. Under this contract, Lockheed Martin will provide users at more than 46 fixed and expeditionary bases with an improved suite of tools at the wing and squadron level. The effort will include design, development, test, certification, installation, integration, and sustainment. The total contract value, awarded via the NETCENTS contract vehicle, is approximately $9M, the initial contract award is $4M. "Warfighters now need faster access to real-time operations and intelligence data, as well as planning and collaboration tools, for enhanced situational awareness and decision-making capabilities. Together with the Air Force we'll work to provide significant command and control advancements that increase warfighter effectiveness," said Gerry Fasano, vice president of C4ISR Solutions for Lockheed Martin's Mission and Combat Support Solutions. Resident around the globe, the TBMCS unit command and control component allows staffs at airbases to coordinate air order taskings with the Air Operations Center and create a flying schedule. By interfacing with a number of external systems, it provides Wing and Base Commanders with decision quality information in near real-time, such as the status of their installation's vital capabilities and the tools to conduct command and control activities on their installation.
