Northrop Grumman has successfully completed the formal contractor system integration testing of its Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) system for the U.S. Navy. The purpose of this testing is to verify if the Northrop Grumman CANES system meets program requirements and is ready for production and the limited deployment phase. Northrop Grumman's CANES solution offers considerable cost and performance improvements over existing shipboard networks including a modernized C4ISR (command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) architecture with increased security and reduced development, deployment and lifecycle costs. The Northrop Grumman CANES system was tested to evaluate the full spectrum of program requirements including significantly improved system management with integrated cybersecurity and the ability to host multiple mission applications in an operationally simulated afloat environment. "The rigorous testing verified the technology maturity and validated the effectiveness of our systems integration," said Mike Twyman, vice president and general manager of Defense Systems Division for Northrop Grumman Information Systems. "We're ready to help the Navy deploy a smarter computing infrastructure that is easy to operate and maintain. Our low-risk, affordable design will easily integrate and securely deliver the best C4ISR applications to our warfighters. "The Northrop Grumman MOSA-CTM process will also allow the Navy to continuously compete the program to drive down acquisition and lifecycle costs," he said. Modular Open Systems Approach-CompetitiveTM (MOSA-CTM) is Northrop Grumman's strategic business and engineering process that achieves the lifecycle benefits of open-systems architecture and commercial off-the-shelf components and software. The process ensures vendor-neutral, enduring solutions that improve interoperability and lower the total cost of ownership. Northrop Grumman is a leader in providing the most advanced, integrated cybersecurity solutions across all domains for the U.S. military, civilian government and private industry. The company has more than 40 years of C4ISR experience and has fielded the majority of the Navy's C4ISR applications. Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
