Paraguay's new President Nicanor Duarte on Monday appointed General Key Kanazawa as the new head of the country's armed forces.Kanazawa, a Paraguayan of Japanese descent, takes the job formerly held by General Expedito Garrigoza.
Duarte also changed the heads of the army, navy and air force.
The new defense minister, Carlos Romero, announced a general restructuring and modernization of the armed forces.
Duarte, who officially took office on Friday, has promised to fight widespread corruption in this South American country of 5.5 million people.
