At least 13 people including 12 government soldiers were killed late Monday when a speeding vehicle rammed into troops who were performing a drill on a road near the western town of Kasese, the army said."A reckless driver, who escaped, rammed into a group of our soldiers who were on their daily drills on the road killing 12 of them and injuring 18 others," army spokesman Major Shaban Bantariza told AFP by telephone.
The vehicle overturned, killing one passenger and injuring an unspecified number of others.
Police were still looking for the driver, he added.
The soldiers belonged to the 507 battalion based at Kalungibati, one kilometre (half a mile) from the scene of the accident.
