Communist guerrillas attacked a navy ship in the Philippines on Tuesday, killing two crew members and wounding five other people, the military said.The ship was docked in the coastal town of Real, 75 kilometers (47 miles) east of Manila, when 15 New People's Army (NPA) guerrillas attacked, it said.
Navy staffer Ismael Bernal and petty officer Joseph Denamarca were killed, the military said.
Five other government men, including a policeman who responded to the emergency call, were wounded.
Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Lucero said members of the army's 59th Infantry Battalion were pursuing the attackers.
The NPA is the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippineswhich has been waging a decades-old rebellion here.
Last week President Gloria Arroyo said government was set to resume exploratory peace talks with the rebels, two years after negotiations were suspended when NPA rebels gunned down two legislators.
