Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in Poland on Tuesday, on the second leg of a three-nation tour focusing on the North Korean nuclear crisis, the reconstruction of Iraq and the expansion of the European Union.Koizumi's government plane arrived at Warsaw airport at 11:15 amfrom Germany.
On Tuesday Koizumi was due to meet Prime Minister Leszek Miller and the two leaders were scheduled to hold a joint news conference at 4 pm.
On Wednesday he was to meet President Aleksander Kwasniewski, before leaving for the Czech Rebublic.
Ahead of his visit Japanese diplomats said Koizumi would seek to step up political and economic relations with Poland, which is the biggest of 10 countries due to join the EU next year.
"The visit marks an intensification of relations between the two countries," Miller's political adviser Tadeusz Iwinski told AFP on Tuesday.
On the final leg of his week-long trip to Europe, which began with a two-day visit to Germany, Koizumi is to meet Czech Prime Minister Vladimir Spidla and President Vaclav Klaus in Prague on Thursday.
He is scheduled to return to Tokyo on Saturday.
