Briton found guilty of plotting to sell missile launcher to terrorists NEWARK, New Jersey (AFP) Apr 27, 2005 A federal jury here on Wednesday found British citizen Hemant Lakhani guilty on terrorism charges, after he was arrested in a sting operation and charged with conspiracy to sell missile launchers. Charged with attempted material suport of terrorism, money laundering, illegal arms brokering and making false statements in support of smuggling, Lakhani was convicted on all five counts against him. "The Department of Justice and our investigation partners are going to do whatever is necessary to intercede in terrorist plots, and those who are participating in them, before they are executed," said Christopher Christie, US attorney for New Jersey. The 69-year-old former textile salesman was detained in August 2003 after showing a portable Stinger missile launcher to an intelligence agent posing as a terrorist supposedly of Somali nationality.
