OrbComm has signed a reseller agreement with Hughes Global Services (Hughes) to deliver OrbComm's satellite- based communications services to U.S. government and military customers.
Hughes will market OrbComm's two-way communications services to government and military customers under a General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service contract, awarded earlier this year to Hughes and valued for all services at up to $100 million.
Hughes intends to offer OrbComm services with a wide range of satellite communications offerings to deliver the most comprehensive global satellite communications solutions available in the market today.
Using the OrbComm LEO satellite network, Hughes customers will be able to cost-effectively track and communicate with mobile assets in the field; generate status reports from remote sites; and give government and military workers the ability to receive and transmit vital information while deployed in the field.
An upcoming Hughes offering, SPOTcast for Government, will bundle a worldwide, one-way OrbComm request channel with broadband data delivery provided via PanAmSat satellites.
"Hughes' GSA contract gives its customers convenient access to LEO satellite services from OrbComm," said Scott L. Webster, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of OrbComm.
"OrbComm's satellite network is a proven means of quickly gathering or transmitting vital data from any point on the planet to any other — a valuable option for government and military customers who need global coverage. Hughes Global Services is a respected leader in providing end-to-end communications solutions, and an ideal company to resell OrbComm's services to end users the world over," Webster added.
