L-3 Communications has named Fernando Faria as president of its Brashear (L-3 Brashear) division. Mr. Faria will be based at L-3 Brashear's headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, and will report to James W. Dunn, senior vice president and president and chief operating officer of L-3's Sensors and Simulation Group.
Prior to his appointment with L-3, Mr. Faria served as the deputy general manager of mission electronics for BAE Systems Information & Electronic Warfare Systems (IEWS).
His career spans 29 years in the defense business, with broad experience in all facets of program operations on various electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) initiatives, including the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS).
Most recently, Mr. Faria's work involved support of missile seeker programs, such as the Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Seeker and the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS).
Mr. Faria received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University and has numerous awards to his credit, including the Technical Achievement Award with Honeywell, the Technical Leadership Award with Loral, the Nova Award for Leadership with Lockheed Martin and the 2003 Chairman's Award for Innovation with BAE Systems.
L-3 Brashear designs and produces complex electro-optical and electro-mechanical systems and instrumentation for the commercial and defense markets. The company operates in six product areas: Telescope Systems, Optical Components, Stabilized Tracking Systems, Test Range Instrumentation, Small Arms Fire Control Systems and Laser Beam Directors.
