Final Analysis, Inc. (FAI) of Lanham, Maryland has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Lockheed Martin's Management and Data Systems Unit for the development of FAI's store-and-forward Little LEO satellite system, the company has disclosed.
The MoU gives LockMart the rights as sole-source provider of network
engineering and integration services on the project. The first task of the
new partnership will be for LockMart to refine the plan for the satellite
system now under design. Final Analysis has proposed the development of a
32-satellite low Earth orbit constellation, backed up by six on-orbit spare
vehicles.
The constellation will provide ground users digital data communications
services, via UHF/VHF radio frequencies. Thus far, FAI has launched two
prototype research satellites, all aboard Russian boosters.
The deal gives
FAI a major player in the industry as partner, with the ability to attract
major new investments in the constellation plan. It also gives LockMart
another opening in the commercial space utilization business.
