Framatome has been awarded a contract to modernize the Reactor Protection System (RPS) in the emergency control building at the Gsgen Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Switzerland. The plant is operated by Kernkraftwerk Gsgen-Dniken AG. The contract also includes the enhancement of battery capacity.
The RPS monitors vital reactor operation parameters and in the event of any deviation safely powers down the reactor. The RPS at Gsgen will be modernized using Framatome's TELEPERM XS digital instrumentation and control (I&C) platform.
We are delighted to continue our decades-long partnership with Gsgen NPP, said Frdric Lelivre, Senior Executive Vice President, Sales, Regional Platforms and Instrumentation and Control Business Unit – Framatome. This new contract again illustrates the trust our customer has in our ability to modernize from analog to digital technologies, while continuing to meet the highest standards of safety.
Since 2002, Kernkraftwerk Gsgen-Dniken AG, the operator of Gsgen, in cooperation with Framatome, has modernized its instrumentation and control (I&C) systems using a step-by-step approach, transitioning from analog to the latest digital technologies, while increasing performance and safety.
The Gsgen pressurized water reactor was connected to the grid in 1979 and has a net electric output of 1,010 megawatts.
Framatome's digital TELEPERM XS platform has been installed or is currently being installed in 92 reactors in 17 countries worldwide.
