![]() ![]() CyberStream-VSAT delivers up to 48 Mbit/s downstream and 384 Kbit/s upstream on a fixed or per-demand assigned basis. Most current generation VSAT systems support downstream transmission rates of 128 Kbit/s to 6 Mbit/s and upstream speeds of 56-128 Kbit/s. "CyberStream-VSAT is a breakthrough in providing corporations with an affordable, high-speed alternative to conventional VSAT or terrestrial WAN systems," said Danny Elbaz, New Media's vice president of marketing. "It enables multiple locations to communicate seamlessly with video, file transfer and multicast capabilities along with high-speed Internet and intranet interactivity. Use of DVB transport and IP application standards makes CyberStream-VSAT an attractive solution for a wide variety of corporate customers." A complete CyberStream-VSAT terminal is equipped with a transmitter and receiver card and a single RF outdoor unit located with the antenna. A typical corporate network configuration includes a central satellite hub -- with the CyberStream Data Gateway -- linked to the Internet backbone and/or corporate intranet content servers. The CyberStream-VSAT terminal may be linked to an office LAN to provide all employees connected to the LAN with fast Internet access and other high-speed data and video services. The system fully complies with the internationally recognized DVB-S and MPEG-2 standards for the high-speed transmission of IP data and video. As a two-way system, CyberStream-VSAT eliminates the need for a terrestrial link to the Internet, which is particularly important in areas that lack a sufficient telecommunications infrastructure or in areas in which the infrastructure is prohibitively expensive. CyberStream-VSAT utilizes Shiron Satellite Communications' satellite return-path technology and hub demodulator, model SR256L. CyberStream-VSAT is the latest addition to New Media's CyberStream(TM) family of end-to-end, data-over-broadband systems for the transmission and reception of IP-based multimedia content and data via cable, satellite and wireless (LMDS and MMDS) networks. CyberStream supports Internet access and data transmission speeds of up to 52 Mbit/s via cable or 48 Mbit/s via satellite and wireless. The CyberStream line is complemented by Enterprise1(TM), the first router to include the functionality of a broadband receiver, and by ProCast(TM), New Media's data broadcasting software package for high-speed data distribution (IP multicasting/push) over broadband networks. CyberStream-VSAT is currently available for initial deployments. Commercial availability is scheduled for the third quarter of 1998.
