Washington (UPI) Sep 26, 2008
In his important new book, "The Culture of War," Israeli military historian Martin van Creveld warns that Germany's politicians have demanded that their army, the Bundeswehr, be stripped of all German military traditions, not just those of the Nazi period. Creveld notes: "At first, only the years 1933-1945 were exorcised. From 1968 on, however, there was a growing tendency to extend the ... more

Al-Qaida terrorists attempting to reinfiltrate central portions of volatile Diyala province from hideouts along its northern and eastern fringes apparently are finding an increasingly inhospitable landscape from which to operate, according to U.S. military officials. Commentary: Connecting geopolitical dots
    Washington (UPI) Sep 26, 2008
As the United States teeters on the brink of a disaster not seen since the Great Depression, two wars are also headed south. Yemen, a hotbed of pro-al-Qaida sentiment in the war on terror, ruled out any further crackdown on extremists. And as crime increases in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, so do sympathy and nostalgia for Taliban rule when crime was virtually eliminated by amputation of ... more
