Poland to host U.S. missiles in April

Confirming a move speculated for months, Poland announced plans to host controversial U.S. Patriot missiles and a contingent of U.S. troops that will operate them, by April. "The Defense Ministry expects the first stage of the stationing of a Patriot battery and a 100-man service team to get under way in the (northern) town of Morag at the turn of April," Poland's PAP news agency reported. China is scaling back defense budget growth to 7.5 percent and telling its neighbors not to worry about its military buildup. The Chinese defense budget for 2010 is to be around $78 billion, said Li Zhaoxing, spokesman for the National People's Congress, an annual two-week congregation of its 3,000 members. The European Commission has decided to fund 43 energy projects across Europe - mainly natural gas pipelines and power grids - with more than $3 billion.
