Washington (UPI) Jul 12, 2010
Facing off in the final stretch of one of the largest and most controversial tenders, Boeing Co. said that it officially submitted its bid to replace part of the aging U.S. fleet of aerial-refueling tankers. Mae Sot, Thailand (AFP) July 12, 2010
The spiky-haired teenager said he clearly recalls the day when Myanmar state troops whisked him from the streets of Mandalay, accused him of stealing and forced him to become a child soldier. "They said if you don't want to go to jail, you must join the army. I said I didn't want to join but whenever I said it they beat me again and again. When I agreed to join they stopped beating me," Win ... more

Apocalypse now? In US and abroad many are prepared
Washington (AFP) July 10, 2010
From the outside, Jerry Erwin's home in the northwestern US state of Oregon is a nondescript house with a manicured front lawn and little to differentiate it from those of his neighbors. But tucked away out of sight in his backyard are the signs of his preparations for doomsday, a catastrophic societal collapse that Erwin, 45, now believes is likely within his lifetime. "I've got, under an awning, stacks of firewood, rain catching in barrels, I've got a shed with barbed concertina wire, like the ... read more
