Norway delays order of F-35s
Oslo, Norway (UPI) Oct 1, 2010
The Norwegian government says it will delay its purchase of 16 of 20 F-35A Joint Strike Fighters as part of its bid to slash spending. Commentary: Pakistan: Nervy one-star
Washington (UPI) Oct 4, 2010
It was at the officers club in the military garrison town of Rawalpindi, a short drive from the capital of Islamabad. The one-star brigadier general, holding a glass of mango juice, asked for permission to speak to the three-star corps commander. They spoke in English as Pakistani generals are prone to do when speaking among themselves. "Sir," began the one star, "I can't help but concl ... more

China's Great Wall crumbles as tourism soars
Badaling, China (AFP) Oct 4, 2010
Empty gin and whisky bottles, crumpled beer cans and tattered food boxes are piled up after a rave in China - perhaps not so unusual, except that the garbage is on the fabled Great Wall. The filthy remains of the full-moon techno party, which drew several hundred foreigners to one of the sections of the wall at Badaling, about 60 kilometres (35 miles) from Beijing, left Colombian tourist Fr ... more

China urges EU to cede IMF power, S.Korea welcomes offer
Brussels (AFP) Oct 4, 2010
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged Europe on Monday to cede more power to emerging markets in international financial institutions, as South Korea welcomed an EU offer to give up some IMF seats.
