Taiwan kicks off plan to build its own submarines
Taipei (AFP) Dec 29, 2014
Taiwan said Monday it was launching a project to build a fleet of its own submarines, after years spent waiting in vain for US models. Deputy Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng told parliament the ministry has approved guidelines for the design contract for an Indigenous Defence Submarine. "This means the military has officially kicked off the self-built submarine project," legislator Lin Yu-fang, who sits on parliament's defence committee, said in a statement.
