Northrop Grumman highlights economic impact to California
Redondo Beach, Calif. (UPI) Mar 24, 2015 - Northrop Grumman says it has a "significant" economic and educational impact on the State of California, which it's highlighting at California Aerospace Week.

The event is taking place this week in Sacramento, the state capital, and Northrop Grumman's vice president of global logistics and operational support, James Zortman, will be speaking about the impact on Tuesday, March 24.

Northrop Grumman says some of its advanced manned, unmanned, space and missile systems are built in California, where it has more than 25,000 employees and a payroll of $2.5 billion. More than $1.8 billion spent is spent with more than 4,000 California suppliers; the company contributes more than $5.2 million to California charities; and $1.8 billion in education partnerships with 23 California universities.

"Northrop Grumman's recent notable manufacturing efforts include building the world's largest aircraft with a 385-foot wingspan in Mojave (Calif.) and developing the world's fastest integrated circuit that operates at 1 trillion cycles per second at its advanced microelectronics foundry in Manhattan Beach."

California Aerospace Week is co-hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Aerospace States Association.

Airbus Defense and Space has announced the sale of its aerospace engineering subsidiary, Rostock System Technik GmbH, to Ferchau Engineering GmbH of Germany.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Airbus DS said the action was consistent with its strategy of strengthening its core business and divesting non-core activities.

"We have conducted an extensive selection process to ensure the best industrial setup for further development of RST's business," said Thomas Muller, head of the Electronics business line of Airbus Defense and Space. "Ferchau and RST both serve their main customer Airbus with focus on premium engineering services, particularly in the cabin and cargo area, which gives their joint activities a strong strategic baseline."

RST provides system engineering and product manufacturing for aerospace customers worldwide. Its product line includes aircraft cabin simulators for crew emergency training, wire harnesses and ground and test equipment.

Airbus DS said German anti-trust authorities are required to give final approval for the sale.
