Anti-submarine warfare training simulations are to be developed and maintained by Alion Science and Technology under a U.S. Navy contract. The award from Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division is worth $24 million and has a performance period of five years. Alion, an incumbent contractor, and has been a developer and integrator of most of the Navy's Anti-Submarine Warfare Virtual At-Sea Training, or ASW VAST, family of systems, including those for P-3 Orion air crew. Under the new award it will continue to develop and maintain existing ASW VAST training and simulation systems and will also design and develop new systems that utilize evolving Live, Virtual, Constructive technologies. The systems developed will be small, easily deployable and computer-based. They will not only support anti-submarine warfare training but also cyber-warfare training. "Under this five-year contract, Alion will continue to deliver innovative training solutions as we did under the LVCMS ASW VAST's predecessor contract, the Mission Rehearsal Tactical Team Trainer," said Terri Spoonhour, Alion senior vice president and Distributed Simulation Group manager. "We are excited to assist the Navy in developing low-cost, high-fidelity training systems, solutions that are designed to support integrated training for both tactical and engineering personnel."
