Boeing Wideband Networking Waveform Demonstrates JTRS Connectivity
Huntington Beach CA (SPX) Jun 19, 2009 Boeing has announced that the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) successfully demonstrated its scalability in a realistic urban field environment at the Space and Naval Warfare Center, Charleston, S.C. WNW-enabled, multichannel Joint Tactical Radio System Ground Mobile Radios (JTRS GMR) will be installed in current and future U.S. Army vehicles, providing warfighters with networked voice, video and data communications on the move. The WNW software waveform is a key enabler to advancing the Army's future force network and will be employed in tests of Future Combat Systems early Spin Out capabilities this summer. During the government-run multi-node demonstration in May, 30 JTRS GMR radios running WNW were networked together. Each radio on the network was then placed in a realistic urban field environment with data distributed among them. The radios' ability to maintain communication with one another while operating in near "real world" scenarios demonstrated the WNW's capability to effectively network the battlespace. "The ability to expand and contract the network while soldiers are mobile is a mission-critical capability," said Ralph Moslener, Boeing program director, JTRS GMR and Network Enterprise Domain. "The demonstration proved that WNW will seamlessly connect soldiers and commanders so that they can trade real-time information and have greater situational awareness than ever before." Boeing is the prime contractor for the JTRS GMR program and is developing the WNW under contract to the Joint Program Executive Office Network Enterprise Domain. Share This Article With Planet Earth
