China says Clinton visit good for relations with US Beijing (AFP) Feb 24, 2009 China hailed Tuesday US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's trip to Beijing, saying it had been beneficial for relations between the two powers. "Through the visit, the two countries have built up mutual understanding... which will help the bilateral relations develop in a sound and stable manner in a new era," foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told reporters. "Both China and the United States attach great importance to their relations and are sincerely willing to promote their relations." Clinton finished a three-day visit to China Sunday, part of a broader Asian tour which took in Japan, Indonesia and South Korea. During the trip, Clinton focused on economic and environmental cooperation with China amid the global economic crisis, while steering clear of the sensitive issue of human rights.
