Denel PMP expects growth in ammunition production

New facility being readied by A-T Solutions
Vienna, Va. (UPI) Jun 22, 2013 - Counter-terrorism company A-T Solutions Inc. is opening a new operations and warehouse facility in Virginia next month.

The facility, which will be the central location for A-T Solutions' Mission Support Division, is 43,350 square feet in size and will combine three separate warehousing facilities, house offices and inventory space.

An existing facility at the site in Spotsylvania Country is being renovated for the project, A-T Solutions said, and a training classroom, demonstration room and showroom are being added.

The renovated facility is expected to open in August.

"The new warehouse will merge three existing warehouse facilities, allowing us to increase our capabilities and the efficiency of our operations," said Dennis Kelly, president and chief executive officer of A-T Solutions.

The facility will be the central location for A-T Solutions' Mission Support Division, which is responsible for the acquisition of specialized equipment, their testing and evaluation, storage and global deployment to support government customers

It also engineers and makes specialized, mission-focused kits used by law enforcement, the Department of Defense, the Department of State, first responders and US-allied nations.

Military ammunition requirements of South Africa and other countries on the continent will lead to Denel PMP to double its turnover to more than $93.8 million.

The South African company said the doubling will occur within the next five years and that it will begin a plant renewal and equipment modernization programs because of the demand.

"We will also increase our research and development capacity," said Denel PMP Chief Executive Officer Phaladi Petje. "PMP is set to become the ammunition solution partner of choice both in South Africa, across the continent and in any of the markets we are targeting."

The company produces 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 assault rifles, which are widely used in Africa, as well as 23mm and other ammunition. It has a strong relationship with the South African Defense Force and AMSCOR, the state-owned armaments company.

According to Petje, it is in the process of building a strong relationship with the country's police service.

Earlier this year, the military's defense review highlighted the need for greater self-sufficiency in the provision of ammunition to South Africa's security forces.
