Denel to deliver armored vehicles to Namibia

South Africa-based defense contractor Denel is on track to deliver armored patrol vehicles and lightweight remote weapon systems to Namibia.

Namibia's order includes eight RG32M vehicles in addition to four SDROW weapon stations. Denel officials expect to deliver all the items by the end of March 2017.

The RG32M is part of a family of mine-resistant 4x4 vehicles used by peacekeeping, security and combat forces in Africa, Asia, the Balkans and the Middle East.

The armored patrol vehicle is designed to withstand grenades, firebombs, anti-personnel mines and improvised explosive devices. The five-seat variant procured by Namibia is equipped with enhanced protection against anti-tank mines.

The second part of Denel's delivery, the Self Defense Remotely Operated Weapon, is integrated with a light machine gun for added defense capabilities. The system is designed to be remotely operated from one crew member from a protected position.

The SDROW is capable of hitting enemy targets at range of over 1,968 feet away.
