Exelis announces new airborne surveillance system

A persistent wide-area airborne surveillance system that produces color video from multiple views has been introduced by Exelis.

CorvusEye 1500 -- developed primarily for law enforcement, border surveillance, and first-responder use -- includes an electro-optical sensor that can monitor day or night over an area of about 1.8 miles in circumference and facilitates decision-making through the use of CogniSense, an embedded analytical framework.

The system provides as many as 10 different close-up area views simultaneously with streaming footage, quickly gathers critical intelligence in support of investigations using archived footage and offers ground station software for live data streaming to mobile devices.

"CorvusEye can capture activity occurring simultaneously in multiple areas that might go unnoticed using traditional surveillance such as full-motion video," said S. Danny Rajan, director of regional surveillance solutions at Exelis. "CorvusEye affords users a comprehensive view of an entire area, so they can piece together possible threats to border security, high-profile events, critical infrastructure and/or other trends of interest."

Exelis said the system will be demonstrated through Thursday at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International exhibition in Orlando, Fla.
