General Dynamics upgrades surveillance system for U.S. border
by Ryan Maass
Fairfax, Va. (UPI) Oct 14, 2015

General Dynamics announced it successfully completed tests for its upgraded Remote Video Surveillance System for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Calling it a milestone achievement for the program, the company says the test demonstrated new technical capabilities aimed to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in Arizona. Mark Borkowski, assistant commissioner and chief acquisition executive of CBP's Office of Technology Innovation and Acquisition, says the Remote Video Surveillance System is a critical component of border security, and the upgrades will better protect Border Patrol agents in the field.

"The General Dynamics team has done a great job honoring its commitments and we are excited to have achieved an initial operating capability in our first area of responsibility," Borkowski said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing this strong relationship, and to completing the rest of our Arizona deployments over the next year."

CBP awarded General Dynamics One Source a $103 million contract for the 10-year project to upgrade RVSS on the southern U.S. border in July 2013. General Dynamics Information Technology's Advanced Technology Solutions vice president and general manager Edward Hudson says the upgrades improve situational awareness so agents are better equipped to monitor and prevent illegal activity.

General Dynamics is involved in a number of the Department of Homeland Security's programs, including Tactical Communications Modernization, Commercial Tier 1 Carrier Wireless Network Infrastructure, and others.
