Harris receives order for new tactical radios

An unidentified Middle East country has ordered wideband and narrowband handheld tactical radios and accessories from the Harris Corporation.

The radios to be supplied under the $15 million contract are the RF-7850M multi-band, multi-mission radio, which offers a new embedded interface that allows users to access a variety of applications for situational awareness, tactical messaging, file transferring and radio configuration support from a web browser.

"The RF-7850M combines the portability of a handheld with much of the functionality and performance of a larger manpack in areas such as range, bandwidth and power output," said Brendan O'Connell, president, International business unit, Harris RF Communications. "The radio provides capabilities for sharing situational awareness feeds and command-and-control information while on-the-move, allowing commanders to make informed decisions in real time."

The RF-7850M-HH is fully interoperable with the Harris' Falcon II and Falcon III radios, which are used by military forces around the world.

Information on the number of units to be supplied the customer and their delivery schedule were not disclosed.
