Raytheon gets $23 million U.S. Army C-RAM contract mod
Washington (UPI) Jul 7, 2016 - Raytheon Missile Systems has been awarded a $23 million U.S. Army contract modification for counter-rocket artillery mortar weapon system's logistics and support.

The contract modification also covers the transition to organic Army logistics.

Work will be performed in Arizona with an estimated completion date of July 2018.

The Army Contracting Command is the contracting activity.

Known as C-RAM, the system provides protection from rockets, artillery and mortar fire by detecting launches and intercepting them mid-flight.

Israel Aerospace Industries has reported a successful test firing of its medium-range surface-to-air missile defense system, or MRSAM, the company said Thursday.

The new system was jointly developed by IAI and India's Defense Research and Development Organization, the company said in a statement.

It was tested an Indian test range and is an advanced path-breaking air and missile defense array that provides protection from a variety of aerial platforms.

The naval version is used by the Indian air force, Indian navy and Israeli defense forces, IAI said.

The system features an advanced phased array radar, command and control, as well as mobile launchers and missiles.

Three flight tests were undertaken, with each simulating a different scenario. The tests validated all the components of the weapon systems, IAI said.

The MRSAM missiles were fired from a land-based mobile launcher, with the missiles acquiring and successfully intercepting the threat.
