L3 Technologies acquires Doss Aviation by Richard Tomkins Washington (UPI) Sep 14, 2017 Doss Aviation, the sole provider of initial flight training for U.S. Air Force pilots, has been acquired by L3 Technologies. The acquisition of the Colorado-based company, was completed on Tuesday and reported by L3 on Thursday. Doss Aviation is being renamed L3 Doss and will be part of L3's Electronic Systems business. Financial terms of the transaction were not revealed. "Doss Aviation is a strategic addition to the L3 training portfolio as the sole provider of U.S. Air Force Initial Flight Training," Todd W. Gautier, L3's senior vice president and president of its Electronic Systems business segment, said in a press release. "As the demand for outsourced flight training and services increases, Doss uniquely expands our military instruction footprint, positioning L3 for growth across both military and commercial training." Doss Aviation is based in Colorado Springs and operates a full-service, turnkey training facility in Pueblo, Colorado. It provides coursework and flight training for both fixed-wing and unmanned aircraft pilots and weapons officers. It also provides instructor pilots for rotary-wing aircraft for the U.S. Army, as well as global airfield service support activities at U.S. government bases. L3 noted that Doss, sole provider of initial flight training for the U.S. Air Force was recently approved for initial flight training of foreign military pilots.
