Macedonia has also been participating in a UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and an EU mission in Bosnia. The former Yugoslav republic's bid to join NATO was blocked at the April 2008 summit by Greece over a 18-year-old name row that erupted following the break-up of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Greece claims the name Macedonia for its northern province.
