Militants blow up bridge on NATO Afghan-Pakistan route
Peshawar, Pakistan (AFP) Feb 3, 2009 Suspected Islamic militants on Tuesday dynamited a key bridge in northwest Pakistan, cutting off a crucial supply line for NATO troops in Afghanistan, an official said. The bridge in the Khyber district was blown up at 6:00 am (0100 GMT) and all traffic on the road has been suspended, official Tariq Hayat told AFP. "We are sending teams to repair the bridge and restore the traffic flow," he added. The bulk of supplies and equipment required by NATO and US-led forces battling a Taliban insurgency in neighbouring Afghanistan is shipped through Pakistan via the Khyber Pass.
