A follow-on contract to produce acoustic sensors used on 10 U.S. Navy Virginia-class submarines has been given to Harris Corporation.

The value of the contract is $15 million. Deliveries will begin in September to Northrop Grumman, prime contractor for the submarines' Light Weight Wide Aperture Array system, or LWWAA.

Harris' acoustic module assemblies help the LWWAA system provide data to the submarine's combat system for the tracking of surface ships and submarines. The sensors are housed in a conformal package that mounts to the submarine hull.

"These latest systems will join the 18 ship sets the company has already supplied for the Navy's newest and most capable submarines," said Jim Brunelle, director, Harris Undersea Systems business. "Harris' solutions protect our forces operating at sea and provide the situational awareness they need to succeed in their critical missions."

Additional details of the follow-on award were not disclosed by Harris.
