Navy extends satellite support contract

The U.S. Navy has extended its contract to Rome Research Corporation for the provision of satellite operations and maintenance services.

The extension to the Par Technology Corporation subsidiary is for one year and worth $5.6 million.

The services -- telemetry, tracking and satellite control -- will continue to be performed at the Naval Satellite Operations Center, or NAVSOC, headquarters at Point Mugu, Calif., and center detachments at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo., Prospect Harbor, Maine, and Finegayan, Guam.

"We are delighted to be able to continue our unparalleled level of service for the U.S. Navy at the NAVSOC headquarters and detachment locations," said Ron Casciano, chief executive officer and president of PAR Technology. "Our operations in tracking, telemetry and commanding communication satellites as well as the management and ground system maintenance of Navy communications satellite equipment, provide a vital service to the Navy and assures uninterrupted 24/7/365 worldwide communication services to the joint warfighter."

NAVSOC operates, manages, and maintains assigned satellites and ground systems, providing continuous space support and space control operations in direct support of the U.S. Navy and other organizations.
