Northrop Grumman To Supply Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulators
Buffalo NY (SPX) Jul 18, 2008 Northrop Grumman has been selected to provide eight Combat Electromagnetic Environment Simulator (CEESIM) systems to support the Electronic Warfare (EW) self-defense ground station, of the EADS A400M transport aircraft. Under the terms of the $28.2 million contract, Northrop Grumman will provide eight CEESIM radio frequency simulators to European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), represented by their business units EADS Defence Electronics (DE) and EADS Military Air Systems (MAS). The CEESIM systems will be manufactured at Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems in Buffalo, N.Y. The Airbus A400M is a modern, multi-role military airlifter that will replace aging fleets of C-130 Hercules and C-160 Transall air transport aircraft currently in service with air forces throughout the world. EADS DE with their partner EADS MAS recently received a direct order for the delivery of the so-called "Pre-flight Message Support Environment" (PFMSE) from Airbus Military S.L., the Industry Lead for the A400M project. PFMSE is a software-based system used to program the A400M self-protection system. It enables the customer to create and verify a library of expected threats and make a pre-selection of possible electronic countermeasures. The verification system of PFMSE includes Northrop Grumman's RF Simulator systems. "Northrop Grumman will be providing its industry-leading CEESIM technology for the A400M to assist in the mission support capabilities on the ground and underpin the effectiveness of the defensive aids systems suite during missions," said John Stanfill, president of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit. "This important win enables us to continue the development of our state-of-the-art CEESIM technology, provide a steady production base of CEESIM systems through 2012 and help us maintain our industry-leading position in the worldwide EW simulation marketplace."
