S. Korea to deploy Taurus missiles this year by Geoff Ziezulewicz Seoul (UPI) Aug 9, 2016
South Korea plans to deploy dozens of Taurus missiles on its F-15K fighters this year, the Yonhap news agency reported Tuesday. The jamming-proof, air-to-ground guided missiles are meant to bolster the country's strike capabilities in the face of mounting North Korean military threats, Yonhap reported. Military officials were quoted by Yonhap as saying the missiles will be brought from Germany by the year's end. The U.S. government recently signed off on exports of critical GPS receivers considered vital as they are not affected by Pyongyang's GPS jamming. The F-15K Slam Eagle is designed to penetrate North Korea's air defenses and deliver precision strikes to military facilities. Armed with the Taurus, the jet could hit Pyongyang or missile launching facilities from greater distances, Yonhap reports. The Taurus will form a core weapon for the country's "kill chain" defense system.
