Optronic sensors are being added to fire control directors aboard Canadian Navy Halifax-class Frigates by Saab of Sweden. The contract for the sensors was issued by Lockheed Martin Canada, the prime contractor for Canada's Halifax-class frigate modernization program. "This order is the result of Saab's good cooperation with Lockheed Martin and the Canadian Navy," said Thomas Kloos, head of Combat Systems and C4I Solutions within Saab's Surveillance business area. "The agreement will improve the system beyond its original specifications." The system referred to is the Saab-built Ceros 200 fire control director aboard all Halifax-class frigates. The Ceros 200 helps provide defensive capabilties against threats, including skimming missiles or asymmetric surface threats. Saab said work under the contract will be conducted in both Sweden and Canada this year and next. Additional contract details were not disclosed.
