A remote weapon station developed by a team from Kongsberg Defense and General Dynamics UK is entering serial production for Scout SV platform variants.

The Protector RWS, which has been available for the main model of the armored vehicle, can replace the primary sight on the Scout Reconnaissance variant and will also be available for all vehicle variants, Kongsberg said.

The variants of the vehicle include Scout Reconnaissance, Protected Mobility Reconnaissance Support, Command and Control, Engineering Reconnaissance, Repair, and Recovery.

"It is fantastic to see the efforts and teamwork that developed between Kongsberg and the General Dynamics UK team during the initial phase of the program moving forward into the serial production phase," said Espen Henriksen, president of Kongsberg Protech Systems. "We have delivered systems to the British Forces for several years, and we are very proud to be able to continue doing so as part of such an important program in the UK."

The Protector allows weapons to be operated from a safe position within a vehicle. It is designed for small- and medium-caliber weapons and is fully stabilized.

Kongsberg said the systems will be produced in Norway for the Scout vehicles.

Deliveries will begin in late 2016.
