Sweden's defense export agency faces dissolution

The Swedish government apparently plans to close its arms and defense equipment export agency in the coming year.

The Swedish Defense and Security Export Agency, or FMX, said the plan was contained in a budget proposal presented to parliament on Thursday.

Swedish government export support would, however, continue "through a different administrative structure than today, while preserving professionalism and transparency."

"We obviously have full respect for the government's right to organize its administration and we now focus on maintaining a professional and effective operation until a new structure is in place," the agency said.

FMX is responsible for the export activities by all defense agencies as well as government-to-government negotiations and contracts.

The agency said it intends to contribute to the new structure to ensure transparency and its ability to prioritize activities, benefit to the Swedish armed forces, and support the Swedish industry.
