The THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle was shown off Monday at the Eurosatory defense expo in Paris. The first fully modular hybrid UGV was developed by Milrem and features ST Kinetics' ADDER remote weapons station. The THeMIS, or Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System, allows different superstructures to be mounted and integrated onto the middle of the vehicle platform for missions such as rescue, transport and reconnaissance. "Unmanned systems will play a significant role in the development of military capabilities in future," said Milrem's Chief Executive Officer Kuldar Vaarsi said earlier this year. "Within the next 10 years, we will see smart ground systems complimenting the human troops during joint missions. The vehicle is expected to be ready for production by the end of the year. The THeMIS features a powerful optical zoom and video tracking that make it suitable for surveillance missions. It has a max speed of about 18 mph and has a zero-meter turn radius. THeMIS successfully completed a round of Estonian army tests last month.
