Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has approved a draft agreement between the governments of Russia and Jordan on the development of a project to build Jordan's first nuclear power plant.
According to a statement published on the Russian government's official website, the agreement stipulates Russian-Jordanian cooperation on the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant.
The plant's first energy block is expected to start working in 2024, while the second one is scheduled to be launched in 2026.
Russia and Jordan signed a Project Development Agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant in central Jordan in September.
The agreement was signed by the CEO of Rusatom Overseas, a subsidiary of Russia's nuclear agency Rosatom, and the Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission at a session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Earlier this month, Rosatom head Sergei Kirienko announced that Russia and India have agreed on the construction of at least 12 new nuclear energy blocks within the next 20 years.
