August 27 through September 7, the Baikonur city tourist club Barkhan held in the Zailiyskiy region of the northern Tien Shan a gathering of mountain climbers dedicated to the Year of Space. Out of ten participants two – V.A.Vashurkin and D.P.Svitavsky – were employees of the RSC Energia branch office at the Baikonur launch site.

The major event of the gathering, which was taking place in the the year of three "space" anniversaries – 100th anniversary of S.P.Korolev, 150th anniversary of K.E.Tsiolkovsky and 50th anniversary of the launch of the first Earth's artificial satellite – was the naming of a nameless peak in the Zailiyskiy Ala-Tau mountain range after Academician S.P.Korolev.

The initiator of the gathering was the sports committee of the trade union organization of the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia branch

office which contacted the Baikonur sports tourism federation with a proposal that one of the nameless peaks be named after the chief designer, the pioneer of space flight academician S.P.Korolev.

The climb took place on September 2, 2007. RSC Energia flag was planted on the peak, and a memorial plaque was attached to one of the stones on the peak.

The geographic coordinates of the peak named after academician S.P.Korolev are:

43 02' N,

77 04' E,

about 4 180 meters above the sea level.

An active support in organizing the gathering was provided by the management of the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia branch office at Baikonur, and by the staff of the Baikonur Culture, Tourism and Sports Board.
