A US military helicopter crashed Thursday in the southern state of Georgia, leaving four soldiers dead and one injured, the military said.

The MH-47 Chinook dropped to the ground after becoming entangled in the cables of a television station's antenna, local media reported.

The helicopter was on a routine training flight from Hunter Army Airfield near Savannah in eastern Georgia to Fort Rucker in the state of Alabama, the military said in a statement.

The fifth soldier, who was injured, was taken to a local hospital.

The military has launched an investigation into the crash.
