L-3 Oceania has received contracts worth $232 million from the Australian Ministry of Defense to provide night fighting equipment, the ministry announced Friday.

The deal will see Australia's military equipped with state of the art night vision goggles, helmet mounts, laser aiming devices and head harnesses, the defense ministry said in a statement.

The goggles will be provided to the country's special forces and infantry, as well as general combatants such as drivers, medics and troops in the navy and air force.

Officials said the need for cutting-edge night vision assets has been illustrated during the past decade during deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

L-3 Oceania is an Australian company that provides a variety of defense products, including acoustic and electronic systems, spatial awareness and maritime domain awareness products.

New night vision goggles from Harris Corporation
Rochester, N.Y. (UPI) Oct 28, 2016 –

A new, lightweight night-vision binocular/goggle that increases low-light capabilities and helps reduce eye fatigue has been launched by Harris Corporation.

The unit is designated the F5032 Lightweight Night Vision Binocular, which features a 9.8-inch, close-focus range capability, fixed and adjustable diopter lenses that eliminate the need to change static lenses for personal or mission specific requirements.

The unit also includes an integrated infrared illuminator, reducing the need for the warfighter to carry a separate illuminator.

"This new Harris lightweight binocular delivers much more capability than any other fielded models," said Erik Fox, vice president and general manager, Harris night vision business. "We're excited to make these available at a time when reduced size, weight and power and ease of use are major concerns for warfighters in a complex tactical environment."
